SVC eBulletin - 10/17/19 - The Habits of Highly Happy People
Last week we started a look at "The Happiest Book in the Bible", Philippians. We started with Phillippians 2:19-30 and what seemed like a rather uninteresting passage. However, we learned that in this section we found four important character traits of happy people:
Shifting the focus OFF MYSELF.
Learning how to WORK WELL WITH OTHERS.
Living for something WORTH DYING FOR.
These are traits we need to learn and develop in our lives if we are going to be happy. Why do we need to learn and develop them? Because we aren't born this way or naturally wired for this It's something we need to cultivate and work on. It takes effort.
The happiest people on earth are CARING – they get the focus off themselves. They’re CONSISTENT – they've learned to be trustworthy. They’re COOPERATIVE and CONSIDERATE – knowing how to work with other people on a team. And they’re COURAGEOUS – willing to take risks for our faith. Happiness isn't something we need to wait for our turn for. We can pursue happiness if we are focused on the right things!

THIS SUNDAY: The Habits of Highly Happy People
If you've been in the business world, you may have been exposed to a book by Steven Covey titled, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." It's a classic read for managers that want to be more effective in their job.
If we are going to "Get Happy", there are daily habits that we can form as well to keep the happy flowing in our lives. This Sunday, Pastor Chris will look at Philippians 3 and show us FIVE HABITS that we can cultivate in our daily lives that will yield happier personalities. We will also expose FIVE TRAPS that the enemy uses to keep us from "Getting Happy."
Join us Sunday as we find out what more "The Happiest Book in the Bible" has to show us!
Praise and Worship will begin at 10:30. Why not come at 10:15 to meet and greet a little before the service starts? We also have Morning Prayer and Oasis starting at 9:00, and all are welcome.
Sharing in the joys and challenges of life with other people who care for us leads to a rich experience in our journey with God. We get to practice what God is teaching us with others who will listen, challenge, and nurture us. We get to practice new skills, use our talents and gifts, and serve people in our community with others who we know and trust. Life groups are great ways to connect with others in the church as well as a way to create a comfortable environment for you to invite friends who may not be comfortable yet with showing up on a Sunday morning. Great relationships make life better and richer! Check out one of our Life Groups for yourself and experience the difference relationships make.
Life Group - Overcomer (Starts THIS Saturday!)
Starting this Saturday, October 19th this exciting ladies group will have THREE different meeting times and locations so there should be no reason to not be a part of one!
Many people feel they are less than who God says they are. We get our identity from our careers, our political positions, our roles in the family, and a number of other lesser things.
However, what is most true about us is that we are made by a God who loves us, and the gospel can bring us into a relationship with Him. When we understand who God is, we more fully understand who we are.
This small group study uses clips from the film
to examine how we determine our identity and how we can find our true identity in Christ.

Life Group - Our Riches in Christ
Coming this November - Join Marc Potocsky as he leads a life-changing, eye-opening 12-week bible study of the book of Ephesians, called, "Our riches in Christ."
This letter along with the letter to the Colossians is the pinnacle of Gods progressive revelation of the mystery of the gospel to the church given to the apostle Paul, the "Apostle of grace." Its main theme is God’s gift to the church (you and I), which is His body and the foundational multifaceted Grace of God, establishing the believers calling, position, identity, and perfect union in Christ.
This group meets will meet Tuesday evenings starting in October. Location and exact time to follow. For more information, call Marc at

This group starts on October 23rd, and the first list of ingredients will go out on Sunday, October 20th! SVC will again make a connection with the community through the Trunk or Treat that will happen on the town green. Sunday, October 27th after service we will be decorating the Walcott truck and loading up to reach out to our community with treats and information about our fellowship. If you are able, please bring one bag of treats to hand out to the community. Trunk or Treat will go from 2 - 4 pm. See you there!
Oasis and Pre-Service Prayer
Every Sunday Morning 9:00-10:15
Do you need prayer? Do you enjoy praying for others? How about just taking a break and listening for God's still small voice?
Every Sunday morning we have a time of prayer and what we call Oasis. We start with Oasis, which is a time of sitting at the feet of Jesus. It is a Harp and Bowl style of worship featuring musical prayer. The name is derived from Revelation 5:8, describing heavenly creatures which each had harps and held golden bowls full of incense (which are the prayers of the saints.) Harp and bowl, soaking Praise and Prayer in an intimate setting, finding rest for your soul. After Oasis we try to be more intentional about praying for our community, area churches, and the needs of our church.
Oasis and Prayer meet in the Leete room down the hall from where we have our Sunday morning service. For more information, see Marc Potocsky.
THRIVE NEEDS YOU!
Thrive is a group for junior and senior high students. An atmosphere where literally anybody and everybody can come and feel included, loved, and heard. The focus is on helping young people learn how to connect with Jesus in a deeper and more personal way. They regularly tackle some very tough topics that are current in our world today.
JJ would like to have the
help of at least one adult every week
so that all the needs of the group can be met. It's easy to help - you just need to show up and be willing to interact with the youth. Please consider this important need and contact JJ if you can step up! Thank you!
THRIVE meets every Wednesday at the Parish Center located in Village Walk, in Guilford. 6:30 - 8:30. For more information contact JJ Secki at 203.645.4054.
Tithes and Offerings
At SVC we don't have a special time in the service set aside for collecting tithes and offerings. At a table located at the entrance door, you will find a small box with a cross cutout on the top. Please place your tithes and offerings in this box. There are envelopes that will be alongside the box that will allow you to designate how you may like your gift applied, or for you to receive a giving statement for cash donations. Please feel free to add your name to your gift, or to designate it toward Tithes and offerings, Missions, or our new Building Fund.
Alternatively, if you prefer to make your contribution online, you can find a link to our
on the website. There you can choose to make a one-time gift, or if it is more convenient you can set up a recurring gift. You can get to that page directly by clicking
Operation Christmas Child is Coming
SVC will participate in Operation Christmas Child once again this year. Since 1993 Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 168 million shoeboxes to children in over 160 countries and territories. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.
The shoeboxes we prepare and collect will
travel around the world
to those who need them the most, and they will include the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as Savior.
Deadline for shoeboxes is Sunday, November 3rd and more information will be coming over the next weeks.

Hospitality Time Help Needed
Many of us enjoy a cup of coffee as we meet and greet with our church family. Maybe you even need a cup just to stay awake during the message! Whatever the reason, right now we are down to one or two people that come in a little bit early so that it can be ready for service. We could use some help! If you can get to church 15 minutes early and help with making the coffee, would you please see Catherine Rampone? Thank you!
God at Work
If you have something the Lord has done for you, we would love to share it with the church. Please let
I will praise you to all my brothers; I will stand up before the congregation and testify of the wonderful things you have done.

Got another minute?
Today, more and more people start the search for a new church family online, and the first stop is usually Google. People want to get a taste of the church from the privacy of their home before they venture out to see what it is like in person. That is part of the reason we have spent so much time making our website attractive, relevant, and up to date.
However, in addition to seeing what our website is like, people also want to hear from other people what their experience has been. They way they do this is through reviews. Shoreline Vineyard Church is on Google as well as Google Maps. If you can spare a minute, maybe you would feel comfortable sharing something about our fellowship that would help someone else who is looking for a new home church? If you click
you will be taken to our Google Maps page. There you can see what others have said and share your story as well. Just scroll down to where you see "WRITE A REVIEW."
